For its 70th anniversary in 2016, Neudoerfler looks back at its most successful years.
In 2010, Neudoerfler secured the biggest individual order in its history – a blanket order for standard pieces of office furniture of Bundesbeschaffungsgesellschaft (BBG), which also reflected positively in sales figures.
Without a doubt the most spectacular order in this context was the furnishing of the new Vienna University of Economics and Business in 2013. It was a project of superlatives, which results in 45.000 pieces of furniture for six buildings with a combined floor space of 90.000 m². Neudoerfler was in charge of equipping seminar rooms, offices and self-study zones. The university’s furnishing can be understood as an integrative factor, as the concept was cross-functionally developed, in order to work independently from the respective architecture.
To strengthen its position in the German market, at the beginning of 2014, the decision was made to acquire brand and product know-how of renowned German manufacturer of office furniture “planmöbel”, whose current customers include Zalando, adidas, Soundcloud and MTV. As a consequence, production was moved from German Espelkamp to the Northern Burgenland in the spring of 2014, and ever since, products of the brand planmöbel are likewise manufactured in the main factory in Neudörfl. Cooperations with architects were also continued; in 2014/15, the modular office furniture programme “unit” by Berlin-based architect firm Kinzo was introduced.
Several months before that, Neudoerler and Lower-Austrian manufacturer of upholstered furniture Wittmann, had agreed to prospectively cooperate in the distribution of selected products. Since autumn 2013, selected sofas and seating furniture of Wittmann’s collections are presented in Neudoerfler’s display rooms.
Consequently, the company achieved, despite the general market trend, a growth of 41 % in the years from 2010 to 2013, generated a total turnover of 41 million euros (2012: 39 million euros) and established its position as market leader (office and seating furniture) in Austria. Employees also benefitted from this, as they were included in the company’s success by means of a bonus system, which was introduced in 2013.
In 2014, Neudoerfler managed to increase its export ratio by several millions, from seven to 10 per cent. This economic success was honoured with various prices, including the award “Superbrand” in the spring of 2015. For this prize, an independent committee assesses, since over 30 years and based on strict criteria, outstanding brands with excellent image and extraordinary services in over 90 countries.
In 2016, Neudoerfler once again established itself as leader in the domestic office furniture market.
Since the 1990s, Neudoerfler was honoured with multiple prizes and internationally renowned quality seals for its successful combination of functionality and design. The acclaimed “red dot award” for excellent product design was even granted several times, most recently in 2013 for conference table “Dreyfuss”, which was designed by Manfred Neubauer, leader of product development, and Thomas Hribar. The international committee of the “red dot awards” evaluated 4.662 works from 1.865 manufacturers, designers and architects from 54 countries.
In 2015, design duo Kim+Heep acted as curators for the “M1 Remix-Award”, which should inspire young designers to newly interpret the management series M1. The winning design by Thomas Ehrenfried will be produced in a limited number in the anniversary year, and will be presented in the course of Vienna Design Week.
