Why now is a good time to invest in working environments.

The increased funding as part of the investment allowance makes it easier for companies to consciously further develop their working environments. 2025/26 is a period in which modernization not only makes sense, but is also financially prudent.

What is new?

The so-called investment allowance (IFB - Investitionsfreibetrag) has been increased for a limited period. This allows companies to additionally claim part of their investment costs against tax.

1.11.2025 – 31.12.2026 for general investments for sustainable, durable, or energy-efficient solutions

Specifically:

  • For most office investments, 20% of the acquisition or production costs can be claimed as an additional tax deduction.
  • For sustainable and more energy-efficient solutions, the allowance is 22%.

Briefly explained:
"General" = office furniture, equipment, ergonomic workstations, meeting areas.
"Ecological" = particularly durable, repairable, resource-saving systems or energy-efficient solutions - you are welcome to discuss this with your tax advisor.

The period:
Applies from now: November 1, 2025 to December 31, 2026

Upper limit:
The assessment basis remains at a maximum of € 1 million per business and year.

What is not eligible?

The following items are not eligible:

  • Used furniture
  • Furniture or items under €1,000 (low-value assets)
  • Decoration & plants
  • Structural measures (e.g. drywall construction, flooring, electrics)
  • Furniture used predominantly for private purposes

Why is the promotion interesting right now?

November and December are planning months in many companies:

  • Budgets are finalized
  • Room concepts for the new year are defined
  • Teams report back their needs
  • Decisions about conversions or new workstations are pending

A simple example

A company redesigns concentrated work zones and meeting areas.
Investment sum: € 250,000.

With the 20% allowance, an additional €50,000 can be taken into account as a business expense.
This reduces the tax base - and therefore the tax burden.
