After roughly a year of construction works, the Bundesgymnasium und Bundesrealgymnasium in Schwechat’s Ehrenbrunngasse offers more space and completely modernised rooms for teaching and studying.
Located over the road from the original building, a three-storey construction, complete with a cellar, was built. It is connected to the original building via a glass on the first level.
The ground floor of the 4.000 square metres large construction contains the central library with around 150 square metres and the cafeteria, complete with a lounge area and open spaces for breaks. The second and third floors provide room for 16 new classes. A new gym with lockers, as well as the school’s building services, are located underground. The new building reaches the low-energy standard and is, like the original building, connected to the Fernwärme.
The original building stills contains 23 classrooms and a gym, although the entrance area, the administrative area, the conference level and classrooms for special subjects have undergone a redesign. The former shelter area was converted into two rooms for handicraft lessons. Moreover, the new building is now barrier free with a state-of-the-art fire protection concept.
Outside, students and teachers now have access to 72 bicycle parking spaces and nine parking spaces.
